About
Capricorn is the 10th zodiac sign out of the 12 zodiac signs, named after the constellation Capricornus, which means goat. It is one of the three earth signs, along with Virgo and Taurus, and it is a negative sign. It is one of the four cardinal signs, along with Aries, Cancer, and Libra, ruled by the planet Saturn, while Cancer is its opposite sign.
History
In Hindu tradition, Capricorn is called Makara, which means “water monster” or “crocodile”. The festival of Makar Sankranti in India, also known as Maghe Sankranti in Nepal, is celebrated on January 13, 14, or 15 in Capricorn, as the Sun enters Capricorn according to the Indian astronomical calendar, unlike the Western Gregorian or Julian calendar. Capricorn-born people are known to be hard-working and determined.
